Kickstarter Update: Trims, Frills and Furbelows - only 9 days to go!

Thank you so much for your support of my project - and for getting me so close to my first stretch goal - if you can help spread the word who knows where this project will end! It would be absolutely amazing if it ended up with both an extra chapter and a second book.

As you can see by the table of contents image attached below, there is a lot that will be included in this book, including scale patterns you can use for your own projects. Please let me know of any other trims you would like to see added to this book. Curators in the UK are working with me right now to identify the best garments from their collections to use as examples and I welcome all of your suggestions of other collections to visit.

Remember, as written in the original campaign information, this A4 book will contain
  • full-length colour photos of each garment used,
  • high-resolution close-up photos of trims showing front, back and inside the garment showing how it was attached, and
  • step-by-step photographic and written construction tutorials for each trim
A few extra tiers have been added to the pledges and you now have the chance to add a 2018 Calendar to your rewards.

Many thanks, again, for joining me on this journey!

RUSSIAN ELEGANCE: Country & City Fashion from the 15th to the Early 20th Century

Here is another book that is going onto my Christmas wish list - RUSSIAN ELEGANCE: Country & City Fashion from the 15th to the Early 20th Century.

On the Amazon website it says:
This beautifully illustrated book shows examples of Russian dress and accessories from the 15th to the early 20th century. Derived from the collection of the State Historical Museum and covering both dress worn in the countryside and in the city, this book is a fabulous feast of splendid patterns and fine detail. From exuberantly colourful and embellished dresses to elegantly sumptuous brocades and silks, the garments and accessories included in this book are an inspiration. In the first part of the book we look at traditional Russian dress which was worn by all Russian peasants, by the urban petit bourgeoisie and by merchants. This type of clothing became accepted as national dress. In the towns and cities, dress was influenced by the Parisian styles but interpreted by Russian seamstresses reflecting the love of bright colours, multi-coloured patterns and decorative features in evidence in traditional dress. In the second part of the book we see examples of the Paris-inspired urban dress. With authoritative essays written by experts L. V. Yefimova and T. S. Aleshina, Russian Elegance is an invaluable resource for fashion designers, artists, fashion historians, set and costume designers, or anyone interested in these beautiful designs.

About the Author

L. Yefimova and T. Aleshina are on the staff of the State Historical Museum and are authors of numerous publications. L. Yefimova is an expert on Russian folk costume; T. Aleshina specialises in clothing and footwear.
